In 1991, four timber associations grouped together and formed the Malaysian Timber Organisation (MTO). The grouping changed its name in 2001 to the Malaysian Timber Association (MTA), and membership expanded under the presidency of the late Y.A.M. Tunku Tan Sri Dato' Osman Ahmad (2001-2004).
