Malaysian Timber Industry Responds to EUDR: MTC Hosts Crucial Debriefing Session

Kuala Lumpur, 13 May 2022: The Malaysian Timber Council (MTC) moderated an engagement session with the European Commission on 11 May 2022 to deliberate on the ongoing development of the European Union's proposal on the Regulation on Deforestation-Free Products (EUDR) and the concerns on the aspects and criteria being considered in the formulation of the regulation.
The attendees of the session included the Directorate-General for Environment (DG ENV) International Relations Officer Mr. Diego Torres, DG ENV Trainee Ms. Antonia Schlicht, DG ENV Trainee Ms. Mathilde Funck-Brentano, the President of the Malaysian Timber Association (MTA) and the Malaysian Wood Industries Association (MWIA), Mr. Goh Chee Yew, and MWIA Executive Officer Ms. Pang Suet Kum.
MTC was led by its CEO Mr. Muhtar Suhaili and represented by the Director of International Business Development Division – Cluster 1 (IBDD C1) Mr. Tan Ting Wai, Director of Strategic Planning and Corporate Communications Division (SPCD) Ms. Lau Li Har, Regional Head of MTC Europe Mr. Gopinathan Tanikudy, SPCD Manager Mr. Azmir Husni Mohamed Nor, SPCD Assistant Manager Mr. Adam Mohd Nazri and IBDD C1 Executive Ms. Lim Siew Jin. MTC's appointed PR Agency, Ridens Public Affairs Managing Director Mr. Maurits Bruggink coordinated the session.
